Who I am
My name is Nehemiah James, I am... well I do a lot of things, but the connecting thread is that I am a storyteller. I've been telling stories in one medium or another for most of my life. My background includes filmmaking, game design, writing, and, of course, photography.
In my work, I have always sought to find beauty in often overlooked details. Be that a flower growing through weeds, the reflection of sun on broken glass, or telling stories about those that have been pushed to the margins.
Outside of creative things, I have an amazing partner and two delightful children. We all enjoy exploring the forests and beaches on our little island. And, when the weather's nice, I'm usually outside building something, be that furniture or a camera rig.
Why I started doing boudoir
I started doing boudoir after my wife gave birth to our second child. She was still settling into her postpartum body and I wanted to do something to celebrate her and the journey her body has gone on. So, nine months after our child was born, we booked some time at a small studio in Oak Harbor and had a mini photo shoot.
From that shoot, I realized that I really enjoyed being able to help hold that space with people. Of working with them and celebrating them, their bodies, and their stories. And doing it in a way that lets people show up just as themselves, without all the extra makeup and photoshop, so they can see how gorgeous and amazing they are just being themselves.
My approach to boudoir
As I have developed my approach to boudoir, I have landed a key thing that I value when approaching my work. I value authenticity in the image. I want to capture you as you are, without photoshop or excessive editing. I think people are amazing just being themselves. In how they show up everyday. Regardless of their body type or how they express their gender. We all carry so much beauty and wonder with us. Those traits deserves to be celebrated and shown off. And we all have scars, stretch marks, folds, wrinkles, and parts that we wished looked a little differently. But those things also make us who we are. All of these things are part of our story and deserve to be celebrated.
Then allow me to offer you some advice: Take a thousand, naked pictures of yourself now. You may currently think, "Oh, I'm too spooky." Or, "Nobody wants to see these tiny boobies." But, believe me, one day you will look at those photos with much kinder eyes and say, "Dear God, I was a beautiful thing!" - Moira Rose in Schitt's Creeks
You don't have to be at whatever your ideal shape or look is to book a shoot. You just have to be you. And be willing to celebrate where you are at on your journey right now. Because right now you are fabulous! And you deserve to take a moment to celebrate where you are at on your journey!
